How it all Began

Hi, I'm Zainab, mom of 2, Educationist by profession, and irrationally passionate about all things Pakistan. I've spent the last 10 years trying to raise kids in America such that they grow into responsible global citizens who are deeply connected to their Pakistani roots and can speak fluent Urdu - and let me tell you, it has been a challenge! I know I'm not alone. If you have similar struggles, you've come to the right place.

Beaj Urdu is my attempt to package a lot of really cool stuff to make learning Urdu super fun, while helping Pakistani kids living abroad explore their rich cultural heritage and feel connected to their roots. I’m really lucky to have found a brilliant team that is just as passionate about Urdu and Pakistan as I am! Together we have brought to life some awesome content and exciting programs that we hope you enjoy!

P.s. Two years ago, I left the research program I was managing at Harvard University to start Beaj Education, an EdTech start-up that enables low-income Pakistani youth to build essential skills for success including English language proficiency, digital literacy and financial literacy. 100% of Beaj Urdu profits go to Beaj Pakistan operations. “Beaj” means seed in Urdu.

    Hello! I am Dr. Mahwash Rashid, a medical professional by training and an Urdu language enthusiast by passion. With my 4 years of teaching experience, I finally discovered that my true calling was to spread the beauty of Urdu language by teaching it and hence I am now dedicated to teaching Urdu by making it fun and interesting!
